About this event

Join our 10 part program to learn the history of this traditional artform, as well as the skills and techniques to safely design and cut your own artworks and gifts.

Be inspired by the past work of Elysha Rei whose artworks have been exhibited internationally. Elysha introduced us to traditional paper cut artworks as well as contemporary artists that push the boundaries of the artform. See below for course outline.

Workshop details

  • New video lesson released each Tuesday, available to watch 24/7
  • Optional complimentary tasks to complete at home between lessons.
  • Join discussions in the Facebook Group to share your work and receive helpful tips and feedback from Elysha Rei
  • $100 for course ($10 per week -10 weeks)

About Elysha

Elysha Rei is a Japanese-Australian visual artist whose work draws upon her mixed heritage and lived experiences between cultures and communities. Works in paper cutting, public art and murals are created from personal and historical archives which embed narrative and symbolism within a Japanese design aesthetic.

Material Kit optional add on available for purchase with your ticket ($30) includes:

  • Glue stick
  • Card stock
  • Sharpie pen

Course Outline

  • Week 1: Introduction to program, history of paper and paper cutting
  • Week 2: Paper cutting across cultures
  • Week 3: Contemporary Paper cutting artists
  • Week 4: Simple kirigami with scissors
  • Week 5: Introduction to the craft hobby blade
  • Week 6: Adding detail to kirigami works
  • Week 7: Paper cutting a template
  • Week 8: Understanding paper cutting design
  • Week 9: Cutting your own design
  • Week 10: Displaying your paper cutting artwork
